I believe we lost a golden opportunity to put together a good administrative set-up in the last four years after we were presented with the opportunity for a revamp. The way forward ought to have been appointing paid professionals who are good at what they do. But then we floundered. I strongly suggest that we do away with the current system of having honorary administrators as that has only led to zero accountability and buck passing. At present, there may be a couple of good administrators but no strategy, vision or timelines seem to be in place. For Indian hockey to come up, we need the best managerial and administrative talent handling day-to-day affairs and preparing and implementing plans. Only that can ensure accountability, transparency and effective communication with all stakeholders. Of course, we also need to strike a balance by getting former hockey players to advise and guide on all matters concerning the game.
