Balls taken to get to his his unbeaten 175 off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in Bangalore on April 23, 2013. Gayle's blitz obliterated the 34-ball hundred by Andrew Symonds during his 112 off 43 balls for Kent against Middlesex at Maidstone on July 2, 2004. Gayle took 17 sixes and 11 fours for his innings


Number of runs managed by Chris Gayle (ave. 46. 33) in 137 matches. He remains the only batsman in the history of Twenty20 to have amassed 5000 runs apart from averaging 40-plus. Brad Hodge is the only other batsman to have aggregated 5000 - his tally being 5411 at 36. 56 in 186 matches.


Number of sixes recorded by Gayle in 137 matches - the most by any batsman in the history of Twenty20. Kieron Pollard, with 249 sixes in 191 matches, has the next best tally.


Number of Man of the Match awards received by him in his career - the most by a player in Twenty20 - the eight more than the next highest. Azhar Mahmood and Brad Hodge, with 21 awards, share the second place


An unbeaten knock played by him has created cricket history in Twenty20, outstripping an unbeaten 158 by Brendon McCullum for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural game of Indian Premier League also on April 18, 2008. Coincidentally, McCullum's knock too came at Bangalore


Runs scored through boundaries during his 175* to become the only T20 batsman to score 150 or more through boundaries, obliterating Graham Napier's 136 through boundaries in his unbeaten 152 off 58 balls.


His feat of eleven hundreds is unlikely to be surpassed in T20s. The second place is shared by David Warner and Brendon McCullum, with five hundreds each. His tally includes four centuries at the IPL which is another record.

Batting average registered by Gayle while managing 2236 runs in 51 matches at the IPL. He remains the only batsman to accomplish the feat of posting 50-plus average. Shaun Marsh has the next best - 45. 80 - while totalling 1603 in 42 matches.


Number of sixes hit by him during his recordbreaking innings - another record in Twenty20, bettering the sixteen posted by Graham Napier for Essex against Sussex at Chelmsford on June 24, '08.


Run-aggregate accomplished by him at an average of 61. 08 in 15 matches in 2012 to remain the only batsman to register 700 runs or more in an IPL season. Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 618 (ave. 47. 53) in 15 matches in 2009-10 has the next best tally.


Number of sixes hit by him in 51 matches at the IPL - a record. His tally includes 59 in 15 matches in 2012 to remain the only batsman to register fifty or more sixes in an IPL season.

Strike rate managed by him while posting an unbeaten 175 - the highest in the history of the IPL in an innings of more than 100. Yusuf Pathan had recorded strike rate of 270. 27 during his 100 off 37 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 13, 2010.


His career-best innings in Tests at Galle in November 2010 remains the highest by any batsman against Sri Lanka in Tests. The only other triple centurion against Sri Lanka being Younis Khan - 313 at Karachi in February 2009.

Batting average recorded in a winning cause while aggregating 4441 in 98 innings, including eleven hundreds and 26 fifties. Only three other West Indian players have managed 4000 runs apart from recording batting average of fifty-plus in ODIs - Brian Lara (6501 at 61. 91 in 138 matches), Vivian Richards (5129 at 56. 98 in 132) and Gordon Greenidge (4185 at 53. 65 in 90).


Runs' tally managed by Gayle at an average of 50. 00 in the four-Test series against England in England in 2004 - his best ever performance in terms of run-aggregate in a Test series.


One of the four players to have managed two innings of 300 or more in Tests - the other three being Sir Donald Bradman, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag.


He is the only West Indian player to post a triple hundred against South Africa in Tests, accomplishing the feat at St. John's in 2005.


Number of sixes recorded by Gayle in 97 Tests - the most by a West Indian in this format. Only three batsmen have managed more sixes than Gayle - Adam Gilchrist (100), Jacques Kallis (97) and Virender Sehwag (91).


Number of sixes registered by him during his career-best Test score - the most by a West Indian in a Test innings. He is the only one to hit nine sixes in a Test innings against Sri Lanka.


Number of centuries scored by him in 242 One-day Internationals - the most by a West Indian. Brian Lara had recorded 19 hundreds in 299 matches.
