There's a growing market for happiness across the world. From gurus to gadgets and from books to blogs people are getting rich and famous by peddling 'guaranteed' formulas to make you happy. A new book on the subject is creating a buzz about cracking the code, this time, using the latest breakthroughs in cognitive science. TOI-Crest catches up with its author Shimon Edelman on what makes us happy.

You studied computer science, later moved to cognitive psychology focussing on vision and language. How did you decide to write a book on happiness? Was it an outcome of your pursuit for happiness?

I can identify several probable causes (all of which I mention in my book Happiness of Pursuit: What Neuroscience Can Teach Us About A Good Life).
