The 'Doosras'

The best of the web for those who love the gentleman’s game

For the cricket fan, there's no shortage of good websites. The sport is covered extensively at the world's leading cricket portal, Cricinfo, and every newspaper has a large section talking about everything related to it. But tucked in a few nooks and crannies of the web are bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers and Tweeters that no cricket aficionado should miss out on. Here's to those 'doosras' ...

>> Sidvee

Writer Siddhartha Vaidyanathan has authored columns for many of the leading cricket publications, but some of his best writing can actually be found on his personal blog.
'Sidvee' has a way with words that few possess, and it's lucky for cricket fans that he is obsessed with the sport. Most of the articles are written from an Indian perspective and are personal musings, but he still maintains a fair balance and a certain amount of gravitas. Also, the blog isn't restricted to only cricket writings, as he frequently writes about other sports, but it's predominantly about the gentleman's game. sidveeblogs. wordpress. com

>> Cricket With Balls

Cricket With Balls started as an outlet for a writer who wanted to break away from being politically correct about the sport he loved. Jarrod 'Jrod' Kimber is one of the funniest cricket bloggers around, but be warned, there's no censor filter in his writing, so if you are offended by colourful language, stay away. Masked under the profanity, sarcasm and dry humour are the musings of a man who deeply cares about cricket and delivers well-reasoned thoughts in his writings. The blog is updated weekly with opinions on what happened in cricket recently, across the world. And once in a while, Jrod will go on a no-holds-barred rant that would make the cricket lover in you shout, "F*** yeah!" cricketwithballs. com

>> Limited Overs

So what happens when a lad who grew up in the US worshipping baseball stars like Carlton Fisk and Gary Carter is introduced to the world of cricket? Matt Becker is an American convert to a sport his country has had little interest in - and there's a wonderful and fresh outsider's perspective to his writing. He discovered his love for the game in 2007, so you won't find eloquent write-ups about 'the days that were';his is a modern take on the game. Matt's pieces are casual and, quite often, draw comparisons with American sports like basketball and NASCAR. Perhaps the best part, though, is the frequency of his updates, as he writes multiple times each week. limitedovers. wordpress. com

>> The Cricket Couch

Subash Jayaraman grew up discussing the game with his six siblings. And he fell so in love with talking about cricket that he made it into his life: Cricket Couch is now perhaps the best podcast about the sport. Jayaraman interviews anyone and everyone from stalwarts like Rahul Dravid and umpire Simon Taufel, to former cricketers like Hashim Badani and an U-15 cricketer in the USA. He has an endearing style that not only makes him easy to listen to, but also ends up drawing out a great amount of information from his interviewees in a short time. And yes, once in a while, he also blogs at the website. thecricketcouch. com

>> Step Out With Harsha

Commentator and writer Harsha Bhogle is perhaps one of the best-known TV faces. The cricket pundit also has his own YouTube channel in which he gives a short talk with his personal opinion on recent happenings in the sport. The videos are usually about five minutes or shorter, and have an informal air to them. Plus, given its content and the frequency of updates - at least twice a month - you will find yourself coming back for more. www. youtube. com/user/StepOutWithHarsha (Newer episodes are available at www. youtube. com/user/StepOutWithSamsonite)
