As stars and actors we do not get the opportunity to meet people and interact with them. This is just my effort to connect to India, to the people of our country, and, more importantly, to myself. " That is about all you will get out of Aamir Khan about Satyamev Jayate, his forthcoming chat show which, like all his projects, remains totally under wraps till he is ready to unveil it.

In a week, the show will debut on TV. Yes, it will involve aam aadmi, it will be emotionally driven and compassionate. And here is what it definitely will not have: sordid let-it-allhang-out episodes and Aamir will not solve the problems of his participants.
The last season of Kaun Banega Crorepati sported the punch line: "Koi bhi insaan chhota nahi hota (no human being is small)" and Aamir's show will take the idea further. "I participated in this because I love my country and wanted to re-ignite a fiery passion for the country in the hearts of our countrymen. For me, this was one of life's most enriching experiences, " says Aamir.

True to character, the star is reluctant to discuss the details of the show. "I won't say much since I want the audience to enjoy the show to the fullest. We've made a theme song for now (recently released), because I think music is something that binds people, and sometimes music does a lot that 'talking' can't, " says the actor. The song was composed by Ram Sampat and lyrics were by Prasoon Joshi.

The video, which has been directed by Ram Madhvani, shows the actor mingling with people from across the country. But Aamir does not take on the role of an all-knowing counsellor to those in distress. "I don't think I have the strength to do so. It's about understanding their problems and connecting emotionally. I might not be able to solve your problem but I can hold your hand or hug you and make you feel better, " he says.

Even though Aamir is known to do things a bit differently, practice hasn't made it any easier. "While doing things differently, I have been tremendously afraid. It's just that I want to achieve something, for which I have to construct a different path altogether. Whatever is close to my heart and clicks in my mind, I instantly agree to do it. I don't think I can change anybody or anyone's lives but if I don't like something I try and change myself. The best way to enjoy life is to try and change yourself and not others, " says Aamir.

Here is another Aamir innovation - his show will be aired at what he thinks is prime time, not what TRPwalas insist it is. Satyamev Jayate will be telecast on Sunday at 11 am, a slot which was once reserved for the hugely popular Ramayana and Mahabharata. "I've been obsessed with Ramayana and Mahabharata and their Sunday morning slot. Families used to sit together every Sunday morning and watch them. So, I had pre-decided that if ever I do a television show, I would want it on that Sunday morning slot. Also, Sunday is a holiday, everyone is home, relaxed. The idea is just to bind people, " he says.

A second googly - the show will be telecast on not only Star Plus but also on Doordarshan. "It will be telecast across all the Star channels, in different languages, and also on DD, since I do not wish language or anything else to be a barrier to the show's national reach. In remote areas, if people can't watch other channels, DD will always be available, " he points out.

Aamir says he quite enjoys the shows that his Bollywood colleagues hosted in recent times. "I enjoyed Kaun Banega Crorepati, " says Aamir and then clarifies: "Maine Amitji wala dekha hai (I have seen the Amitabh version). " He is known to have said that he doesn't like Shah Rukh Khan, who hosted the third season of KBC, as an anchor. He also liked Salman Khan's Dus Ka Dum and Hrithik Roshan's dance reality show. "But you know, I was never interested in hosting those shows. I would love to be a contestant on a quiz show though, " he says.

His single-minded focus on the project has meant that Aamir has had to push back work on at least two films. His producers, Aamir admits candidly, are quite fed up with his preoccupation. "The release of Talaash has been postponed and it will release only at the end of this year. The shooting of Dhoom 3 has also been postponed by a month, " he says but adds that the delays are for a good reason. "This show is a very important step in my life. It's been my most ambitious project by far and very close to my heart. "
