Geeta to appear for Class 8 exam in MP

Geeta to appear for Class 8 exam in MP
Indore: Setting her sights on getting a govt Job in Madhya Pradesh, Geeta, the hearing and speech impaired woman who was brought back from Pakistan in 2015, will be appearing for class 8 exams with the Madhya Pradesh State Open School.
Considering 33 year old Geeta’s special pleading, the MP State Open School Board on Thursday accepted her application to appear for the class 8th board exams starting on May 21 to May 28, despite the registrations being closed.

“We had received Geeta’s application for appearing in class 8th exams. We have accepted her application as a special case as she was earlier also provided aid by the government. She will be appearing for the examination at a centre in Bhopal,” director of MP State Open School, Prabhat Raj Tiwari told TOI.
Being overage for regular schooling, MP State Open School does not have an age limit for applicants to appear for the examination of class 5, 8, 10 and 12 giving an opportunity for people of all age groups to complete their school education.
On behalf of Geeta, the Indore based NGO, Anand Service Society had been trying to apply for the open school exams however, due to lack of documents like Domicile certificate and Samagra ID her application wasn’t submitted.
With no other option left, NSO’s Gyanendra Purohit and Monica Purohit sent an application on behalf of Geeta to the board requesting to consider her case.
“The board considered Geeta’s case and accepted her application. She is preparing for the exam from Maharashtra and we are guiding her online. She is living in poor condition there and is aiming to get a job for herself to support her family,” Purohit told TOI.

Meanwhile with only four days remaining for her exams to begin, Geeta is studying for more than 2 hours everyday.
Originally named Radha, she currently resides in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district. Geeta is being taught online through video call by Monica Purohit, a sign language expert from the NGO is aiding Geeta in her studies through online classes.
“Geeta will reach Bhopal on May 20 and appear for her first exam the next day. We have arranged for a special educator who will be there with her during the exam. Hopefully she will pass the exam and we will be able to apply for a govt. job for her. If she gets a job here in MP her family will shift here from Maharastra,” added Purohit.
Geeta has been pursuing skill development courses through another NGO based in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The Indore NGO has also sent the books to Geeta for better preparation. Unlike the CBSE or state board where the hearing and speech impaired can replace Sanskrit subjects with arts, Geeta will have to appear for Sanskrit as a subject which she is finding difficult.
“Sanskrit is difficult to learn in less time. She is trying to learn and hopefully she will be able to get good marks,” added Purohit. Due to language barrier Geeta couldn't continue her education in Maharashtra as she does not know Marathi. TNN
