Polepally SEZ has no green nod yet, PCB informs NGT
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Pollution Control Board has said the project proponent, Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, has not yet submitted the final environmental impact assessment (EIA) report and no environmental clearance (EC) has been granted for the Polepally Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
TSPCB said this in an affidavit with the National Green Tribunal.
TSPCB filed its reply in response to a complaint filed by farmer Kosgi Venkatesh in NGT on May 8. The SEZ, located in Polepally near Jadcherla, houses multiple pharmaceutical units, alleged to cause environmental pollution.

According to TSPCB, TSIIC is yet to submit the application for EC to the State-Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA). Terms of reference were issued under the violation category, and a public hearing was conducted earlier. TOR was issued in March 2021.
TSPCB called for a public hearing on July 7, 2023, to obtain the EC for the controversial Polepally industrial park and SEZ, which drew sharp criticism from environmentalists for violating norms.
The NGT, after considering multiple joint committee reports, directed the TSPCB to recover environmental compensation from the polluting units. Petitioners in the application filed with the NGT alleged that even after two years of the tribunal’s judgment, the units continue to cause pollution and release untreated chemical waste water into agricultural fields and open land, operating without the required EC.
The petitioners urged the NGT to direct TSPCB to halt the activities .
