Amritsar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (
BJP) star campaigners’ list is a blend of prominent figures from regions across the country, including
Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and communities such as the Mahajans living across
Punjab.
The diverse selection aims to appeal to voters and secure victory for the BJP candidates in Punjab, where the party is contesting independently following the dissolution of its alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over the issue of farm laws.
Himachal Kalyan Sabha president Yashpal Sharma said there are over 10 lakh people from Himachal Pradesh living in Punjab, with Amritsar being home to 1 lakh. He said while their basic issues are local, matters concerning the central govt are to be “addressed by leadership at the Centre”. Sharma said the presence of star campaigners from Himachal can make a difference and influence the local Himachali population. The BJP issued a list of 40 star campaigners, which included Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Manoj Tiwari, Anurag Thakur besides BJP’s top guns. Rashtriya Bihar Vikas Manch president Arjun Yadav said the impact of such leaders depended on their influence and the region in Bihar they came from.
