Agartala: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Friday in a letter to Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia demanded a reduction of airfare on the Agartala-Kolkata route, which has suddenly spiked in recent days.
“The people need to avail air travel under compulsion, particularly for medical care in the hospitals of metro cities and the students pursuing higher education and air route is the most convenient mode of transportation for
Tripura.
But the sudden price hike of airfare has led to hardship,” he said.
The current airfare for the Kolkata-Agartala sector has reached an unprecedented high of Rs 17,000, as the govt has no regulation on the airlines. This is particularly distressing given that many citizens rely on the more advanced healthcare facilities available in Kolkata and other major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and New Delhi.
